As you know, a terrarium is a small ” garden ” inside a glass container and how they are perfect for the interior of the house, the truth is that they do not need much care. You can make them with any container, but I like the way they look in fish tanks better.
How to make a terrarium
You will only need:
A fish tank or any glass container, (just make sure it’s deep).
The succulents that you like the most, I made it with sedum morganianum, echeveria elegans, haworthia fasciata and some cacti.
Light earth (wet it, squeeze it with your hand, and if when opened it crumbles it is perfect).
Stones or gravel.
Activated charcoal (you can find it in aquariums or garden stores).
Moss.
Gloves for gardening work.
Shells or stones that adorn.
Step by step to make a terrarium
Step 1 . First clean the fish tank perfectly.
Step 2 . Place a thick layer of gravel or stones mixed with activated charcoal (about 2.5 cm).
Step 3 . Add a layer of moss, this will prevent the soil from seeping into the gravel and will help remove the amount of water inside the tank so your plants don’t rot.
Step 4 . Place a considerable layer of soil, the amount will depend on the size of the tank, as well as the length of the roots of your plants.
Step 5 . Take very carefully the succulents and cacti from their original pots, shake their roots to remove excess soil, later, dig small holes inside the terrarium and insert them in the space that you like best, but the leaves of your plants should not touch glass because fungus could grow.
Step 6 . Add decorations and a little moss, this will work as a sponge to absorb the water.
Tip : for irrigation, I recommend that you do it when you notice that the gravel at the bottom is a little wet.
Now that you know how to make your own terrarium, get to work and design yours with the succulents that you like the most, I am sure it will be beautiful.
