This fruit is a natural detergent for body, clothes and hair
The Sapindus mukorossi tree is famous for being known as “the soap tree”. Native to the foothills of the Himalayas, it can reach 15 meters in height only at altitudes of 1,500 to 2,200 meters.
Its name means “soap from India”, since its fruits have been used for centuries as a natural detergent to wash the body, clothes and hair. All the trees that belong to the genus Sapindus contain in the shell of their fruits a natural substance called “saponin” whose main characteristics are detergents, that is why they are known as “wash nuts”. When the saponin comes into contact with water, it dissolves and produces a soapy solution that cleans, generating a light foam with a pleasant smell.
Below, we show you some advantages of washing with the soap produced by this tree.
– Does not pollute
Washing in this way is much less harmful to the environment compared to the foam produced by industrial chemical detergents.
– It is more economical
1 kg yields 100 washes in the washing machine or 6 months of washing for a family of 3 people.
– You do not need fabric softener
You do not need to use fabric softener, as it gives the fabric a natural elasticity. In fact, it is recommended for delicate fabrics.
– Antiallergic
Being neutral, it is recommended for people with allergies and sensitive skin.
How to use these fruits to wash
Once they are dry, peel them by separating the skin. Then put 3 in a cotton bag and use it next to your clothes to wash them. The aroma is very light, so you can also add a few drops of oil if you want to obtain a more intense perfume.
