How to store strawberries in the fridge
This first tip is important when you have just arrived from the market or produce with a box of fresh strawberries. To prevent it from spoiling in a few days or getting mold inside the refrigerator, you can only sanitize it when you eat it. That’s right you read! Because, contrary to what it seems, excess moisture (and there is a lot inside the fridge) ends up accelerating the degeneration process of the strawberry, resulting in fungus or even bacteria.
Another extremely important point is that you must be very careful when organizing it in your fridge, as some places are more “wet” than others, that is, humid. So, choose the least refrigerated place to store the fruit (hint: drawers and lower shelves of the fridge).
And finally, it’s time to condition them in the fridge.
To do this, you must have at hand:
- A box of strawberries;
- Kitchen scissors or a knife suitable for cutting vegetables;
- A plastic pot that fits the strawberries;
- A roll of paper towels.
Way of doing:
- First, cut the stem of the strawberry (that green cape);
- Then place the fruits upside down in the plastic pot;
- This pot should be lined with a paper towel (which is used to absorb moisture);
- Finally, take it to the fridge, preferably in the places described above.
Tips for preserving when the fruit is already cut
If the idea is to store the strawberry already cut and ready to be consumed, the ideal is to choose dark-colored, non-transparent containers with an excellent seal. The important thing is that the fruit is not exposed to the light of the refrigerator and without contact with the oxygen of the environment, extending the shelf life of the strawberry for a longer time.
