In this article we show you how you should wash your pillows so that they are fluffy and do not deform.

It is recommended to wash them every 4 or 6 months to eliminate accumulated germs, the problem is how to do it without deforming or losing their sponginess. We recommend that you read the washing instructions label and there you will be able to identify if the padding is washable or not, and if they are suitable for the washing machine.

If your pillows are suitable for the washing machine : choose a delicate wash cycle, opt for cold water, a mild detergent and avoid using chlorine.

To the wash cycle you can add 8 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/2 cup of white vinegar.

– Lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide

In a bowl of warm water, add 1/2 cup of lemon juice and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, soak your pillow for 30 minutes and rinse in the washing machine.

– Tea tree oil

Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 10 drops of tea tree oil. Spread it on the stains on your pillows and let it rest for 45 minutes, rub with a brush to remove the excess and wash. Let them air dry in a horizontal position. Preferably in the shade so that they do not get direct sun.

Recommendations :

  • For faux down pillows use a delicate cycle with cold to lukewarm water and check the seams very well to prevent the filling from coming out in the wash.
  • For foam filled pillows it is not recommended to put them in the washing machine. You can use a little neutral soap, scrub with a sponge, remove the excess with a damp cloth and let dry.
  • For latex pillows it is recommended to wash by hand, do it in a large tub with a little mild detergent. Submerge the pillow without rubbing, wring it out and let it dry in the open air.
