How to wash strawberries correctly

Strawberries should be washed just before eating. Washing them in advance causes the appearance of mold and fungi and, consequently, the rotting of the fruit.

Therefore, keep them in the package and wash them as you consume them. To properly wash the strawberries at the time of consumption, it is important to follow two steps.

The first is cleaning. This step involves manually removing the largest and apparent dirt, as well as small insects and separating the fruits that are not suitable for consumption. Wash them in running water.

The next step is sanitization or sanitization. Here, the objective is to remove the microorganisms harmful to health.

To do this, fill a basin with water and add about 1 tablespoon of bleach or sodium hypochlorite. Place the previously washed strawberries in this solution and leave them submerged for approximately ten minutes.

After this time, drain and rinse in clean water. Next, dry all the strawberries.

This step is very important to prevent the fruit from absorbing water and ending up rotting or changing its flavor.

Do this with a paper towel, but without rubbing. Just rub the fruit gently over the sheet of paper.

An important tip: do not remove the stem from the strawberries. They help keep the fruit longer.

Once dried, the strawberries are ready to be used in the way you prefer.
