DIY – How to replace bathroom grout: easy, step by step
Before proceeding to the task, you will need to purchase the following items:
- Scraper with tungsten blade: it will be used to scrape the grout;
- Straight trowel for grouting: you will need to apply grouting mortar;
- Bushing: must be wet to clean the dust and residues that will be in the spaces between the coatings;
- Sponge: important for cleaning and finishing;
- Clean cloth: will remove excess moisture;
- Plastic tray: you must use it to prepare the mortar.
Preparation mode:
- First, remove the old grout. For this, the old mortar must be worn down slowly, until it reaches the bottom of the tile joints.
- Then, remove excess powder with a wet loofah;
- Finally, dry the surface with a clean cloth;
- In the meantime, prepare the mortar that will be used in the grouting. For this, take the clean and dry plastic tray. Add the amount of water as indicated on the product packaging, mixing until it becomes a smooth consistency;
- Let the dough preparation rest for 10 minutes. Then repeat the mixing process;
- Shall we apply? Then, position the trowel at 45 degrees, pressing the dough well into the joints. Repeat this process several times, avoiding failures;
- As soon as the dough dries, the excess must be removed with a damp sponge, through gentle movements;
- Don’t be worried about the surface turning white, this is normal;
- After 30 minutes, on average, you can finish. Make sure it is completely dry. With the damp sponge, pass the surface with smooth movements;
