How to Clean a Smelly Fridge
Even the worst odors can be banished with a little patience and perseverence.
Here’s a how to from the experts.
Empty the fridge and freezer.
For bad smells, you’ll need another place to store food overnight.
Remove shelves and bins.
Wash them in hot soapy water or 1 tbsp bleach + 1 gal water.
Wipe doen the inside of the fridge with the following solution:
1 Cup baking soda + 1 gal water
Repeat in the freezer.
Unplug and leave the door open overnight.
Repeat deaily until the smell goes away.
Got a smell that just won’t quit?
Try cleaning the evaporator coils:
Keep fridge unplugged.
In freezer, remove panel with screwdriver.
You may need to disconnect wires.
Spray the coils with warm soapy water.
Use a paper towel to catch the dirty water.
Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe coils.
If you’ve got dual evaporators, you may need to clean 2 sets of coils.
Allow coils to air-dry before replacing panel.
Tip: For a pleasing smell, dab cotton balls with vanilla extract and leave in fridge overnight.
